SVEND DANIELSEN & SVEND-ALLAN SØRENSEN, “KUNSTNERSAMMENSLUTNINGEN SVEND-SVEND”
08-06-2006 – 15-07-2006
Svend is from Middle Jutland, Bjerringbro. Here you find birds, cows and a bird table with a lopsided brass plate – Blackbirds only! Names, faces, ideas, politics, absurd, humorous and a bird herbarium. Rock ’n roll in woodcut birds; the hen clucking amicably. Between concept and a love to the graphic tradition. Frank linocut, materiality – strict concept, lopsided setup.
Svend D about Svend A
Opening Thursday June 8th, 2006, 5-6 pm.
Svend Danielsen (1955) and Svend-Allan Sørensen (1975) met in 2002 at the graduation exhibition of the youngest Svend from The Academy of Fine Arts, Fyn. Soon an artistic solidarity and sympathy grew between them. Since then, they have made books, artworks and art projects together. However, “THE ARTIST UNION SVEND-SVEND” at GALERIE BIRTHE LAURSEN is the duo’s first bigger exhibition, showing painting, graphics, video, photography and a tree trunk. The pivotal point in the exhibition is the fine and wily interplay between Svend A’s black and white writing and Svend D’s characteristic colouristic style. Svend-Svend is an original element on the Danish art scene right now.
Svend Danielsen was educated at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, by Svend Wiig-Hansen and Sven Dalsgaard in the years 1974-78.
Svend-Allan Sørensen was educated at The Academy of Fine Arts, Fyn, by Jesper Christiansen and Lars Bent Petersen in the years 1997-2002. Since 1999, he has been working as an editor at the publishing house adressens forlag.
The exhibition continues through Saturday July 15th, 2006.
